Thursday 26th November 1964 is an historical day in South Asian Broadcast industry. On this memorable day Pakistan Television (PTV) started broadcast services from Lahore Pakistan. Technically, each “frame” had to be broadcast “live”, as at that time, no “record; edit; archive and play” technology was available, in the region.
Only 30 capable Pakistani professionals under the leadership of Mr. Aslam Azher, the then Managing Director of PTV, successfully accomplished the mission. The first live “frame” broadcast on PTV was of late Nisar Mirza. Today, PTV has minimum 6,000 employees and the largest infrastructure with 96% TV household penetration in a country of 180+ million people.
